Military Surprise Homecoming

Army Spc. Kelita Baskin, 22, had just returned from a seven-month tour of duty in Afghanistan when she went to a Louisiana school on an exciting mission. He only has 10 days at home, and he wants to make this time special.

Baskin was only 20 years old when his mother died of cancer, leaving his five younger siblings to support. His relationship with his siblings was special, and he joined the army to help give them a better life.

To his surprise, he told his brothers who were staying with his aunt while he was away that he was coming home late. Then he turned to the former gymnasium teacher causing a pleasant shock. First he will pick up his sister from high school, then his brother from high school, and then they will go to elementary school where there are three sisters and one cousin.

For Hilburn, it was the first time he encountered soldiers in the hallways of his school. He managed to get all four boys out of the classroom without any surprises.

As successful as Baskin was in his career as a military officer, he stayed out of sight until then and then by ten.

The children ran to him, hugged and did not hold back the tears. The meeting was happy not only for his family, but also for other students, teachers and administrators. "We always talk about how our school is a family," Hilburn said. "Togetherness only touches the soul."

In addition, it gave students an opportunity to learn more about the Army and show appreciation for Baskin. "I'm really excited that the kids are talking about him, and I've never met him," Hilburn said. "It really encourages them to want to work."
